Elias Mpofu
Elias Mpofu, Ph.D., DEd, CRC is professor of health services research at the University of North Texas. He also is honorary Professor of Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Sydney, adjunct professor of translational health research at the Western Sydney University [Australia] and distinguished visiting professor at the University of Johannesburg [South Africa]. Formerly Professor of Rehabilitation Services at the Pennsylvania State University, Elias Mpofu’s research focus is on community-oriented health interventions. He is recipient of research awards by the US National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation National Institutes of Health, Health Services Research Administration and National Science Foundation Professor Mpofu was also awarded the Rehabilitation Educator of the Year Award by the NCRE (2010) and an honorary doctoral degree in education by the University of Pretoria.
His professional service includes being past Chair/Convenor of the Rehabilitation Psychology Interest Group of the Australian Psychological Society (2014-2015), panel member of the Australian ICF Disability and Rehabilitation Research Program (AIDRRP), advisory committee member of the World Health Organization’s [WHO] Collaborating Centre for Health Workforce Development in Rehabilitation and Long Term Care (2012-2017) and examiner for the behavioural health module of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2012-present) and International Representative of the US National Council of Rehabilitation Education (2010-2012; 2028-2020).
He published two edited textbooks in 2010 in which he worked with a multidisciplinary team of over a hundred researchers and practitioners in rehabilitation and community health to map over 500 widely used rehabilitation and health assessment instruments to the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Prof Mpofu is Editor of the Australian Journal of Rehabilitation Counselling (AJRC).
