The relation between socio-emotional development and cognitive development in children

 

Dr. María Cristina Richaud is currently Superior Researcher of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) of Argentina, Emeritus Researcher of the Adventist University of the Plata, and Scientific Advisor of the Master in Psycho-diagnosis and Psychological Evaluation of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Buenos Aires.  She was Director of the Interdisciplinary Center of Research in Mathematical and Experimental Psychology (CIIPME-CONICET) for 15 years (2001-2016).

Dr Richaud’s main scholarly interest is in parenting, stress, coping, attachment, social cognitive variables as empathy, and in relationship between emotional variables and cognitive development in children and adolescents. For the last twenty years she has been deeply interested in the study of problems and resilience promotion of children at risk for poverty in urban-marginalized and in rural contexts.

She has developed several questionnaires to evaluate coping, parenting, empathy, self efficacy, etc. in children and adolescents, that are used in different parts of the world, especially in Latin America.

She is currently involved in several projects related to children’s and adolescent´s development, prosocial and aggressive behavior, including collaborative work with researchers of the University of Valencia and of the University of Missouri. She is Editor of Interdisciplinaria: Revista de Psicología y Ciencias Afines, serves on several journal editorial boards, and has about 180 publications among articles in scientific journals, book chapters, and books. Dr Richaud teaches postgraduate courses in Methodology and Psychometrics in CIIPME-CONICET and in the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).

For her distinguished work she has received different awards, as, between others, Award Bernardo Houssay from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Nation Argentina,  Premio Rubén Ardila para la investigación Científica en Psicología/ Rubén Ardila Award for Scientific Research in Psychology 2009, from the Foundation for the Advance of Psychology, and 2013 APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology.
