David Maree is Full-Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pretoria where he was Head of Department from 2013 to 2016. He was chair of the Psychometrics committee of the Board of Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and also President of Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) in 2013.

He is currently working on the philosophy of psychological science and how a realist metatheory can move science beyond quandaries like the qualitative-quantitative debate. He teaches research methods, and psychometrics and is also involved in research utilising Rasch modelling.
